FUNCTIONAL GROUPS

ZAC DUNN

HYDROXYL

  • Group of atoms or molecules have a specific task to fulfill.
  • The task is to tell the molecules what to do.
  • -OH

CARBOXYL

  • -C(=O)OH or -COOH.
  • Group consisting of carbonyl and hydroxyl.
  • The fatty acids are important components of the biomolecules known as lipids, especially fats and oils

PHOSPHATE

  • An inorganic chemical, is a salt of phosphoric acid.
  • PO43
  • Example:
  • Phosphates are the naturally occurring form of the element phosphorus.

AMINO

  • Amino acids are biologically important organic compounds made from amine and carboxylic acid functional groups, along with a side-chain specific to each amino acid
  • along with a side-chain specific to each amino acid.
  • (-COOH)
  • Example:fat
