GALAXIES

different types of

galaxy

  • a location in outer space where there are millions - billions of stars and dust that are held together by a gravitational pull.

spirAL GALAXY

  • A rotating galaxy shaped like a disc with what are called spiral arms sprouting out from the centre of them.

elliptical galaxy

  • a galaxy with stars that orbit the centre, creating the distinct oval shape.

irregular galaxy

  • irregular galaxies do not take a singular shape, and are deformed because of a stronger gravitational pull from another galaxy.

dwarf galaxy

  • a small galaxy with less stars than other galaxies like the milky way. Dwarf galaxies usually contain 100 to several billion stars.
