GALILEO AS A CHILD
Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, Italy on February 15, 1564.
He was the oldest of seven children.
His father was a wool trader who wanted Galileo to study medicine.
Was sent to work in a Jesuit monastery at age 11.
He became a monk then in 1581 went to the University of Pisa to study medicine.

Created the telescope
Studied astronomy
Believed in the heliocentric theory and proved it.
Discovered how to regulate clocks.
He was a mathematician, astronomer, and musician.

HELIOCENTRIC
Galileo believed and supported the heliocentric theory.
Galileo could prove that the heliocentric theory was correct unlike the geocentric theory.
Galileo told the church that they were wrong and he had to recant his theory or be burned alive.
The heliocentric theory is the belief that the sun is the center of the galaxy.
