THE FORMATION OF THE ISLAND

The island is currently a barrier island, and was formed when there was a supply of sufficient sand, rising sea levels, and strong winds. The winds are crucial. because their energy moves the sand around.

HOW BIG IS THE ISLAND

Galveston Island is about 27 miles long, and no more than 3 miles wide, with a total area of about 81 miles.

THE POPULATION

The population grows every year with people who were born there and people who came there by choice. The current population is about 50,000 people.
