GAMMARUS HABITAT

• Gammarus lives on fresh water
• They live in drainages; streams; rivers
• It can occur on Great Lakes
• They lives in cold water
• They can also be found in ponds

WHAT DOES GAMMARUS EAT?

• They eat meat
• They also eat newly dead aquatic animals
• They chew on and eat cotton on linen threads
• They also eat part of a fishing net

GAMMARUS FEATURES

• They have two antennas located to their cephalophorax
• They have an abdomen with six segments
• The coxa also marks the beginning of the gills
• The first three abdominal segments have paired pleopods to help them swim
• The last three abdominal segments have uropods which form a fin

FACTS

• Individuals are white or clear under water
• Gammarus are amphipods
• Males are 10.5 mm
• Females are 7.6 mm
• Gammarus females has pouches for hatched eggs
