WHO WAS GANDHI

  • Lawyer
  • Anti War Activist
  • Advocate For Indian Rights
  • A Great Leader

Why was he a GREAT leader?

Because he believed in peace and equality for everybody and he never viewed himself as a superior towards his peers and followers just because he was in charge. He didn't want to be a leader, he just wanted to make a difference. All he did was for the wellbeing of others, and the rights and lives of millions of others always came before his own in his own mind.

PERSONAL HISTORY

  • Born October 2, 1869
  • Married at age 13
  • He was very shy as a child ( ran home from school because he couldn't bear to talk to anyone )
  • He had 2 sons and a wife
  • He studied law in London
  • He spent 20 years in South Africa opposing discrimination against Indians
  • He was the leader of the Indian National Congress
  • Death~ January 30, 1948
  • He lived for 79 years

Choices and Actions
- At a young age, Gandhi begins to fight for anti-discrimination in Africa
-Gandhi believes in peace and forgiveness after he is mobbed and beaten but forgives the mobbers and won't press charges
- Gandhi and 2000 Indians burn theirs registration cards in protest non-violence rallies proceed to grow in size
-He boycotts British goods
- Went on a hunger strike for 21 days ( I could never do that)
-resulting in his release
- Gandhi leads the famous Salt March ( he got salt from the ocean )

CONFLICT

  • South African government opposed him and his followers beliefs of rights
  • British Parliament punished Gandhi and his Indian following
  • Was jailed several times following his non-violent protests
  • Was banned from certain goods needed following a boycott
