A TIMELINE OF GANDHI'S LIFE

BORN

  • Born October 2, 1869
  • Birth name Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

1876

  • Gandhi starts school in Rajkot.
  • He studied different stories that influenced him in the future.

1881

  • Gandhi starts high school in Rajkot.
  • He read the bible and was very smart in his classes.
  • He stayed away from athletics in high school and stayed with his work.

1883

  • At the age of 13 Gandhi married a 14 year old girl named Kasturbai Makhanji.
  • It was an arranged child marriage. He did not chose his wife.
  • It was a part of their religion to have an arranged marriage.

1888

  • He travels to London to train as a barrister.
  • He left a month before his 19th birthday.
  • This is where he joined the vegetarian society.

1893

  • He was ejected from a train in South Africa.
  • This is what motivated him to fight for Indian rights in British colonies.

1894

  • He founds the Natal Indian Congress.
  • Gandhi realized India needed permeant help with their interests. Hence the Natal Indian Congress.

1899

  • He organized the Indian ambulance corps of 1000 men.
  • This was during his time in the Boer War.

1921

  • Gandhi is given authority to the Indian national congress.
  • He had then created a new constitution while under his authority.

1944

  • Gandhi's wife dies at age 74 of chronic bronchitis.
  • She had also suffered two heart attacks which lead to her being in bed most of the time.

GANDHI'S ASSASSINATION

  • On January 30, 1948 Gandhi had been shot at 5:14 and killed as he was going to say his daily prayer meeting message.
  • He died at age 78.
