Who was Gandhi?

Gandhi was the man who led India to Independence.

Why is he important?

He helped change the lives of poor Indians

Gandhi was quiet and shy as a kid. He was also honest.

Gandhi once stole statues from a temple with his friends, when they got caught Gandhi was the only one to admit to it

In high-school, Gandhi found the lessons in English Challenging. But, he took an interest in his traditional language, Gujarati.

One important event was when Gandhi got married to Kasturbai Makanji at the age 13. Their marriage lasted 62 years.

Gandhi's interest in Religion started when his dad died. His father's death made him realize that Hinduism has something to teach him.

Religion taught Gandhi the importance of truth, courage, and duty

Gandhi traveled to England to enroll at the Inner Temple in London to study law. He studied harder than any other student and graduated on June 10, 1891.

Gandhi and his family moved to South Africa because things weren't working out in India

Gandhi's first job in South Africa was a legal adviser at an Indian company.

Many Indians were mistreated, Gandhi experienced this on a bus. He got kicked off the first class section.

Gandhi was determined to help the Indians. This determination helped get rid of his shyness and give his first public speech.

"In 1914, the government gave in. They abandoned the special tax, agreed to recognize the Hindu marriage and changed the registration law"

1930,Gandhi led thousands of Indians on a 250-mile march to a coastal town to produce salt.

Gandhi popularized his idea that Indians spin their own cloth, by traveling with his own spinning wheel to his speeches.

The spinning wheel then became the symbol of Indian Independence.
