Born May 17, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota
His full name is Gary James Paulsen
His father served in the military, and his family constantly moved
He never spent more than five months at one school
He was shy and terrible at sports

His wife's name is Ruth Wright Paulsen
His childrens names are James,Lance,Lynn,and Storm
He has always lived in New Mexico

EARLY CAREER
He discovered he wanted to be a writer when he was serving in the army from 1959-1962
He created a fictitious resume and got a job editing a men's magazine in Los Angeles where he learned to write
He published his first book, "The Special War", in 1966

He was one of the most prolific writers in the United States
He is the author of more than 200 books and magazine ariticles
Became an acclaimed young adult fiction writer
