PRESENTATION OUTLINE

AMEDEO AVOGADRO

Facts about his life-
1) His family tradition was studying law, but he gradually lost interest in legal matters which lead him to science. 2)He found science was much more intellectually stimulating.

3)When he was only 20, he was awarded a doctorate in canon law. 4)He spent most of his time studying math and physics. Professor Vassalli Eandi helped him with this.

5) In 1803, Avogadro published his first scientific paper which looked at the electrical behavior of salt solutions. 6)In 1820 he became the professor of mathematical physics at the University of Turin.

Avogadro's gas law was first discovered by him in 1811.

Avogadros gas law can is used in everyday life. 1) A flat tire takes up less space than an inflated tire.
2) Lungs expand as they fil with air. Exhaling decreases the volume of the lungs.

3) A balloon filled with helium weighs much less than an identical balloon filled with air.

4) As you blow up a basketball you are forcing more molecules into it so there is more volume.

Real life example-Blowing up a balloon is an example of Avogadro's law because it says as you blow more molecules of air into the balloon, it expands.

Variables and Units--V=volume of gas
n=amount of substance of the gas(measured in moles)
k=a constant equal to RT/P where R is gas constant, T is temp(K) and P is pressure
