the first gas mask

• made by Cluny Macpherson
• born on march 18th 1879
• died in 1966
• this gas mask was made in 1915
• he was born in newfoundland

horses

• there were gas masks for horses
• they functioned the same by filtering the toxic air
• they were not full face covering masks

gas filter idea

• Cluny macpherson 
• first had the idea from a hanker shift he had with pee on it
• the pee on the hanker shift filtered the gas 
• wich allowed him to breath clean air as long as it was around his mouth

evolution of the gas mask

• The gas mask has evolved alot
• from urine  on a cloth
• to a big filtering mask

pros

• saved many lives
• not very expensive
• the somewhat comfortable

cons

• they don't always work
• they don't always fit children
• not good for people who are claustrophobic 
• some gasses can also damage your skin so a mask isnt always enough
