PRESENTATION OUTLINE

IMPACT OF ICT

TO THE WILDLIFE PROTECTION

IMPACTS OF ICT TO THE WILD LIFE

  • ICT helped zoologist veterinarian and animal takers to monitor, evaluate their populations Protect and to help them ..ICT was useful to the wildlife conservation protection program
  • Information and communication tools like remote sensing, satellite tracking and gps and other technologically tools to monitor and protect the wildlife.

HOW THE TOOLS WERE USED

  • GPS AND tracking satellite-Global positioning system (GPS) is also a key part to technologies used for wildlife conservation. Since the 1990's GPS tracking has followed a diverse range of species From orca, whales to spider monkeys

DRONE INNOVATION FOR CONSERVATION

  • In Kenya one mature conservancy. Has grown its population of endangered black rhinos by 100% in just 10 years by deploying innovative technologies for surveillance Ol Pejeta Conservancy is East Africa’s largest black rhino sanctuary and home to the last three northern white rhinos in the world. To protect them from poachers.

“Social media

  • “Social media is making conservation ‘cool’ or more appealing. It helps us reach a new audience ,audience that is always online and we would have never been able to reach via traditional means “The Internet is a very quick and cost effective way to reach people, share all there work, screen wildlife short films, and organize mass actions aimed at protection of wildlife. Through

  • the Internet we have helped organize a global march for elephants and rhinos, highlighted important causes dedicated to protecting wildlife, raised funds for wildlife protection, recruited volunteers for our conservation initiatives, and the list goes on. The Internet is vital to our conservation work.”

HOW ICT HELPED THE WILDLIFE

  • ICT helps in creating threatened wildlife database and to monitor and visualize its population and distribution, habitat use and preferences, planning and management of conservation programmes ,, progress of conservation activities and comparison of historical and present wildlife diversity.

CONCLUSION

  • Characterisation, quantification and monitoring of wild life is a major factor challenge in conservation The traditional methods are not sufficient to tackle the conservation strategies of the threatened species whose number is increasing at an alarming pace. and to the ones that are in low population

  • The ICT is helpful not only in tracking and monitoring the threatened wildlife but also in planning and management of their conservation efforts. It is a great tool in sensitizing people towards wildlife and create awareness about their conservation and need of sustainable management.
