Gene drive allows scientists to add or subract various traits with in a species by making the trait dominant with in that species genes.

Untitled Slide

The Gene Drive has been experimented on with mosquitoes by removing the dominant traits for diseases like West Nile virus, malaria, and dengue fever.

Countries in Africa and other mosquito disease stricken areas highly support the gene drive movement to better the protect people.

However, other countries in the UN are hesitant to proceed with the gene drive in fear of messing with the balance of nature and risk eliminating any valuable species i.e. Frogs in Australia

The uses of gene drives could provide an important tool for the control of vector borne diseases and the management and possible elimination of invasive species.

Another set back is that gene drive traits cannot be fully reversed with in a species.

There is also debate about which traits people should be allowed to remove or add in humans if the technology becomes possible.

GENE DRIVE INCORPORATES CRISPR TECHNOLOGY to successfully complete the process.
