Just Some Background

  • Occurs over long periods of time.
  • Even greater scale than that of regular anxiety
  • Develops between childhood and midadulthood.

Potential Causes

  • For a lot of mental illnesses alike, there really isn't a defined probable cause
  • Some doctors like to point towards genetics.
  • Others towards behavioral trends of anxiety.

Health Risks That Come With GAD

  • Women are more likely to be affected than men
  • Family genetics
  • An affected personality. i.e. super cautious towards random activities or anything overall.

  • Fatigue
  • Muscle Aches
  • Trembling
  • Hot Flashes
  • Sleep Disturbance
  • Headaches
  • Sweating
  • Nausea

  • Chronic stress
  • Persistent worrying
  • Compulsive worrying about worrying
  • Loss of concentration
  • Indecisiveness

  • Looking at the negative side of things

Signs of General Anxiety Disorder

  • Worrying consistently affects work, social life, etc.
  • Ongoing depressive state.
  • Suicidal thoughts/behaviors

How to Treat GAD

  • Through different psychotherapy methods. (counseling)
  • Drugs (anti-depressants, buspirone, benzodiazepines)

Potential Prevention

  • Seek to receive help from early signs.
  • Avoid substance abuse.
  • Prioritize issues and other matters in your life.

Ways to Cope with GAD

  • Eat your way to healthy lifestyle
  • Get physical activity on the daily.
  • Do not rely on sedatives.
  • Use relaxation methods when dwelling on issues.
