Tap Dancing
- This is a dance that requires the performer to make rhythmic noises with metal plates on the bottom of heeled shoes.
When you tap dance you will need to hear the sounds you are making in the rhythm to the music.
There are many types of tap shoes, and they all make different sounds. They range from soft taps to harsh taps it depends on the brand.
There are two types of tap dancing, Broadway and Jazz.
Broadway tap dancing focuses mainly on the dance part of tap dancing but you also stay in tune with the music
Jazz tap dancing is the opposite of Broadway tap because it focuses more on the rhythmic sounds that are made with the shoes.
In tap dancing you do most of the dancing on the balls of your feet. The heel is used but not that often.
Step 1: Flap
move your foot out and hit the ground with the ball of your foot, but don't pull through.
Step 2: Shuffle
Move your foot out and hit the ground and then pull your foot back.
Step 3: Leap
Jump in the air with one leg then land on your other leg.
Step 4: Hop
Step with your one leg then jump on that same leg.
Step 5: Ball Change
Step quickly on the ball of your foot then step fully down with the other foot.
Step 6: Cramp Roll
Step on the balls of your both of your feet, then hit your heel against the ground. One after another.
Next you combine your steps to make a rhythm.
Step shuffle ball change, first step then on one foot preform a shuffle then quickly move your foot back behind the other and hit the toe tap on the ground. Then just step with your opposite foot.
Shuffle hop step: With one foot preform a shuffle then hop on your opposite foot and then step.
Shuffle dig step: Preform a shuffle with one foot and then a dig and step.
Flap step: preform a flap then hit your heel against the ground.
After you get each combination down you can combine them all into a routine.
