MODERN DAY EXAMPLES OF GENOCIDE
Genocide is the killing of a group of people because of their beliefs or race. The word originated from the Holocaust of the many Jews killed for their beliefs. Although there is an originization that is specifically created to prevent genocide (called The Convection of the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide), it happens often throughout the world.
On September 11th, 2001, in New York City, many innocent Americans died from terrorists from Al-Qaeda, for they believed Americans were an unworthy race. This is clearly genocide because others from a different race made an attempt to kill Americans for being what they were. In the same way, the Nazis believed that Judaism was a race, and that they should be destroyed for their beliefs. The Nazis also made false assumptions about the invasion of Jews, and how they would wipe out the German race.
North Korea has several different genocides happening today. Christianity is a big one. The percentile for Christians in North Korea was around 25% to 30%. In 2012, approximately 50,000 to 70,000 Christians had been either executed or persecuted. Like the Holocaust, the Christians who were persecuted were sent to live in concentration camps, where conditions are terrible. Unlike the Holocaust, it hasn't ended yet.
