PRESENTATION OUTLINE

MEKONG RIVER

  • Also called the Nam Chu River in Tibet.
  • Called the Lan Tsan Kiang in China.
  • The lower river floods during the rainy season.
  • Creates a boundary between Siam and Laos.

MALAY PENINSULA

  • Minerals found are tin, iron, gold, and galena.
  • Rainfall is between 60 inches and 270 inches annually.
  • Most is covered by tropical rain forests.
  • About 35 per cent of the worlds rubber is from here.

DARLNG RIVER

  • During droughts the stream becomes quite dry.
  • Lots of rain causes the water level to go to 20 or 30 feet above the bed.
  • Forms part of the boundary between Queensland and New South Wales.
  • Flows southwest to join the Murray River.

GREAT VICTORIA DESERT

  • In a barren and inhabited area.
  • Is covered in dune fields.
  • Has very little rain.
  • Thunderstorms are very common in the summer.

NORTH ISLAND

  • Is called Te Ika-a-Maui.
  • Wellington is the capital.
  • The smallest island of the two.
  • Has sandy beaches and active volcano peaks.

FIJI

  • Has 322 islands 106 of them are inhabited.
  • Warm weather year around coldest it's got is 72 degrees
  • Suva is the capital.
  • Nandi has the international airport.

MARSHALL ISLANDS

  • Has a shark sanctuary to protect sharks.
  • They claim Wake Island.
  • Some islands were discovered by Spanish explorers.
  • In 1788 the islands were named after an English captain who found some.

TAHITI

  • Is the largest island in the French Polynesia
  • It's capital is Papeete.
  • Centered on volcanic mountains.
  • Southeastern is very isolated while the southwestern potions is very well populated.

PHILIPPINES

  • The education is patterned after the American school structure.
  • Fishing is an important diet both salt and fresh water fish.
  • Mined copper is the main deposit in Mountain Province.
  • Rice and sugar cane is mostly grown but they grow corn and sweet potatoes.

TRANSANTARCTIC

  • Longest mountain range in the world.
  • Divide east and west Antarctic.
  • Are mainly volcanic origin.
  • East Antarctic ice sheet flows threw the mountains.
