  • The water is yellow from minerals.
  • depths are only 60-80m
  • rich fish life
  • It is also home to many endemic waterbirds

TAKLIMAKAN DESSERT

  • Taklamakan Desert average annual rainfall is less than 40 mm
  • the Taklamakan is also the world's largest shifting-sand desert
  • there are a total of 409 vertebrate species
  • The lowest elevation point is 154 metres below sea level.

SEA OF JAPAN

  • The sea itself lies in a deep basin
  • depths of some 650 to 1,000 feet
  • The waters of the sea generally circulate in a counterclockwise pattern

  • The Yangtze River is the world's 3rd longest river at approximately 6,000 km
  • Construction on the dam was begun in 1994.
  • Officially, 1.2 million people will need to be resettled, but the estimate by ecologists and sociologists is 1.6 to 1.9
  • The original estimated price of the dam was 20 billion yuan (US$6 billion)
