THE GOBI DESERT

  • It is one of the largest deserts in the world
  • It stretches from northwest China into Mongolia and covers over 500,000 sq. miles
  • The desert is larger than Texas and California combined
  • People came here while traveling on the Silk Road
  • There are fragments from nomads in its soil from about 100,000 years.

HUANG HE (YELLOW RIVER)

  • Located in northern China
  • It starts in the Kunlan Mountains and empties into the Yellow Sea
  • Both the Sea and the River get their names from the yellow silt
  • Its basin was the birthplace of ancient Chinese civilization
  • The 1931 flood killed about 1,000,000-4,000,000 people

CHANG JIANG (YANGTZE RIVER)

  • It is the longest river in Asia
  • It flows 3,900 miles from Tibet to East China Sea
  • The river has caused a major flood at least every 50 years
  • Human activity has been verified in the Three Gorges
  • Thin was about 27,000 years ago

KUNLUN MOUNTAINS

  • They are located west of China
  • It's the source of China's two great rivers-the Huang He and Chang Jiang
  • The mountains extend over 3,000 km
  • Zhong Qiu Jie takes place within these mountains
  • There is a road so people can travel throughout these mountains

PLATEAU OF TIBEt

  • It's also known as the Xizang Plateau
  • It covers about 620 miles from north to south and 1,600 from east to west
  • It is the highest and largest plateau in the world
  • Nomads in this area are the remainders of the nomadic practice
  • These people raised livestock instead of crops
