SOUTH AMERICA

ANDES MOUNTAINS

  • The Andes is located along the western coast of South America.
  • The countries it runs into are Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina.

ANDES CLIMATE AND VEGETATION

  • Some of the climate is freezing cold and others are warm and tropical.
  • This has to do with the elevation and how close the climate is to the equator.
  • There are many plants like the polyelpis, cactus, and wild potatoes.
  • The polyepis is a type of tree, they grow from Venezuela to Chile and Argentina.
  • Theyare mostly found in Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, and Mexico. The cacti can be made into wood to build houses.

  • The Andes is the longest mountain range in the world.
  • The highest peak of the Andes is Mt. Aconcagua, which is a volcano.
  • Most of the peaks are volcanoes.

LLANOS

  • Llanos is located east of the Andes in Colombia and Venezuela.
  • It runs through Venezuela and Colombia.

LLANOS CLIMATE AND VEGETATION

  • The climate there is a mild warm temperature.
  • Rain falls mostly in the winter and theres little rain in the summer.
  • Llanos have huge plains that are covered with grass and esteros.
  • Those are forests that grow along the shores of the rivers.

  • Llanos has some of the world's richest tropical grassland.
  • There are more than 100 spiecies of mammals.
  • There are also over 700 spiecies of birds.

GUIANA

  • Guiana is located on the north Alantic coast of South America.
  • It runs through Suriname, Venezuela, and Brazil.

GUIANAS CLIMATE AND VEGETATION

  • Through out the year the climate is hot and wet.
  • It is monderated by northeast wind trade winds and has teo rainy seasons.
  • There is a 83,000 square mile stretch of rainforest.
  • The plants mangroves and saltwater grasses grow in shallow brackish waters and help protect the land.

  • Guiana is the only English speaking country that is in the north-eatern part of South America.
  • It is now the smallest country in South America.
  • It used to be called French Guiana, but is now officially called Guiana.
