Birth rate

  • Is the number of live births per thousand persons in a year.
  • Its is a major component of growth of growth because in India thew birth rates have been higher than the death rates
  • The natural increase of population in the difference between birth rates and death rates .

Death rate

  • Its is the number of deaths per thousand persons in a year .
  • The main cause of death rates in Indian population has been rapid decline death rates .

  • Until 1980, high birth rates and declining death rates led to a large difference between birth rates and death rates results in higher rates of population growth .
  • Since 1981 birth rates also started declining gradually resulting in a gradual decline in the rate of population growth .

migration

  • there are two types of migration internal(within the country) and international (between the countries )
  • Internal migration does not change the population of the country,but changes the distribution of of the population within the nation ( cities ,towns , villages ).

  • Migration is an important determinant of population change .I changes not only the population but also the population composition of urban and rural populations in terms of age and sex composition.

Age composition

  • It is the number of people in different age groups in a country.
  • The population is grouped into three categories children ( below 15 years ) , Working age ( 15 - 59 years ) and Aged ( above 59 years )

Literacy rates

  • It is the percentage of people in a population or country who can read and write .
  • According to the Census of 2001 , a person who is aged 7 years and above can read and write and understand a language is treated literate.

  • The literacy rates in India as per census 2001 is 64.84% which includes 75.26% of males and 53.67% females .

Occupational Structure

  • It is the distribution of occupatons in a society .
  • Occupations are classified as primary , secondary and tertiary.

  • Secondary activities - include buildings , manufacturing industry and more .

Health

  • Death rates have declined from 25 per 1000 population in 1951 to 8.1 per 1000 in 2001 .
  • Birth rates have been increased from 36.7 years in 1951 to 64,6 years in 2001 .

Adolescent Population

  • the aolescent population constitutes one fifth of the total population of India .
  • Adolescent is group of 10 - 19 years .

Adolescent population

  • Nutrition requirements of adolescents are higher than those of a normal child and adult .
