isthmus
A narrow strip of land, with water on both sides, that connects to larger land masses.
Example: the isthmus of Panama connects Costa Rica and South America and is between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.

plain
Elevated flat land.
Example: the Great Plains in North America.
3.
delta
A point of land extending into the sea; it is usually smaller than a peninsula.
Example: the Nile Delta, where the Nile River expands and drains into the Mediterranean Sea.
4.
cape
The triangular-shaped land found at the mouth of some large rivers.
Example: the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.
5.
peninsula
A mass of land almost entirely surrounded by water. It is usually connected to the mainland by a narrow neck.
Example: Florida is a peninsula.
6.
Valley
An elongated lowland between mountains, hills, or other uplands.
Example: Sacramento is bordered on one side by the Sierra Nevada mountain range and on the other side by the Coastal range.
7.
canyon
A deep narrow depression in the earth's surface, often having a river running through it.
Example: the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
8.
plateau
A broad expanse of generally high and flat land, also called a tableland.
Example: the Tibetan Plateau located in central Asia.
9.
strait
A narrow passage of water connecting two larger bodies of water.
Example: The Strait of Gibraltar which connects the Atlantic Ocean on its west with the Mediterranean Sea on its east.
10.
Archipelago
Either a group of islands or a body of water that has many islands in it.
Example: the Bahamas in North America.
