FACTS ABOUT HIM

  • Birth: February 22, 1732
  • Born: Bridges Creek , Virgina
  • Bridges Creek later became known as Wakefield in a place called Westmore County
  • Not have a middle name

CHILDHOOD

  • Had five brothers and one sister
  • Father died when he was at age of eleven
  • Childhood: not really known
  • Tale: he chopped down a cherry tree and told his father due to his honest character
  • Tale: probably created by Mason Locke Weens (an author of a biography of Washington a year after he died).

CHILDHOOD PART TWO

  • wanted to join the British navy when fourteen, but didn't because of mother's wishes
  • Helped his mother with plantation
  • Became county surveyor at seventeen: helped him develop experience when he became a major in the Virginia militia

EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

  • Was believed that he finished formal schooling at age fifteen
  • Was taught by a private tutor
  • Shown aptitude for mathematics
  • Half brother, Lawrence was his mentor even though he had tuberculosis

  • Was baptized when he was two months old

DEATH

  • Death: December 14, 1799
  • Freezing temperatures caused sore throat which led him to get a hoarse voice
  • Began to have severe chills with trouble breathing and speaking
  • Diagnosed to have inflammatory quinsy
  • Suffered to the point that he says that he was giving up
  • Dead in Mount Vernon, Virginia
