Georgia - the country of remarkable history and culture. Its special geographical location justify the cultural identity that distinguish Georgia from other countries. On the one hand it is at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, and at the same time, Georgia occupies a central place in the Caucasus between the Black and Caspian Seas, where it has always played a significant role.

Georgia's recorded history dates back more than 3000 years. The recently discovered Dmanisi hominid fossils in the foothills of the lesser Caucasus provides a remarkable 1.8 million year old link with Europeans' earliest ancestors. After the Stone Age, humans started settling on Georgian territory more intensively and since then humans have always inhabited this land.

The nation of Georgia (Georgian: საქართველო sakartvelo) was first unified as a kingdom under the Bagrationi dynasty by the King Bagrat III of Georgia in the 9th to 10th century, arising from a number of predecessor states of ancient kingdoms of Colchis and Iberia.
