CIRCUMLOCUTION
Instead of saying, "I lost my Latin homework," you say, "As a matter of fact, the Latin assignment in question is temporarily unavailable due to the secrecy of its location."
Instead of saying, "I got a C on my Latin translation," you tell your parents, "There was room for improvement in my attempts to translate Latin prose into quasi-colloquial, English expressions, and while Ms. Brackett recognized my attempts to be literal and forthright, she would appreciate additional detail in how I transliterate an inflected language."
