FOOD

  • Waakye (rice and beans with fish, eggs and spagetti)
  • Strawberry fool (a delicious desert made from strwberries, cream and wine)
  • Akotonshi (shell less crab cooked with peppers & tomatoes
  • Akpeteshie (traditional Ghanaian liquor made from either palm wine or sugar cane, creating an almost moonshine concoction).
  • Shoko (traditional Beef and spinach stew)

SPORTS

  • Football/soccer (main sport in Ghana)
  • Winter olympics (Ghana first qualified for the winter olympics in 2010 in Vancouver Canada)
  • Boxing (Ghanian boxing champs in Azumah Nelson, Nana yaw konadu both of whom are 3 time world champions
  • Ghana became the first country in the continent of Africa to win a medal in Association football (soccer)
  • Golf is so popular in Ghana that they have the Ghana Golf awards (GGA)
The Ghana black stars are the main Ghanaian team. They always participate in world cups and has made Ghana one of the many or maybe the only country in Africa to have made it to the semifinals in a World Cup

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

  • Dr kwame Nkrumah was the first Ghanaian president
  • Ghana used to be a british colony called the Gold Coast
  • On March 6, 1957, Ghana gained independence from Great Britain
  • Elmina Castle (built by the Portuguese to trade Gold, ivory and Slaves
  • Ghanaian currency is the Cedi
In 1482, the Portuguese built a castle in Elmina (which is not a major tourist attraction in Ghana despite its dark history, There are torture chambers in there and "path of no return" which was basically a death chamber for the most unfortunate of slaves. )
