GHETTOS

  • It was highly guarded.
  • There were many diseases
  • They were crowded all together
  • Located in urban areas.

GHETTOS

  • Millions of Jews died in these ghettos.
  • Stayed here before they went to concentration camps
  • There had harsh living conditions.
  • They were short of supplies.

CONDITIONS IN CONCENTRATION CAMPS

  • The inmates had to work for their food in wages.
  • They died from exposer and overwork.
  • They used gas chambers and crematories.
  • They were stripped of every valuable possession.

CONDITONS IN CONCENTRATION CAMPS

  • At the largest concentration camp 8,000 Jews died daily.
  • Many Jews were burned in furnaces.
  • They had many other punishments.
  • They even stored the dead bodies in cellars.

LOCATION

  • Some camps were in Germany & Soviet Union
  • 20,000 camps were built between 1933 & 1945
  • First concentration camps were in Germany
  • They were mostly located in rural areas.

  • One of the biggest camps was Aushwitz
  • It was located in Oswiecim, Poland

LIFE IN THE GHETTOS

  • Where Jews stayed before concentration camps
  • Had to wear badges outside the walls.
  • Shortage of food

LIFE IN THE GHETTOS

  • Typically walled with gates
  • Within, had their own culture & courts
  • Shortage of housing
  • Disease was very rampant
  • The last Ghetto was in 1870

THE HOLOCAUST

  • Millions of people died during the holocaust
  • It was a tragic time
  • Learning about it will help from it occurring again
