What are They?

  • burial sights for their dead
  • Used to express their spiritual animal or plant
  • helps tell their story in life
  • some used mounds to build temples and homes.

Bird, snake, and deer mounds.

  • Deer
  • Bear
  • coyote
  • rabbit
  • ferns
  • trees (oak and maple)
  • birds (eagle, cardinal, hawk, and woodpeckers)

MOUND TEMPLE

Used in most southern tribes

HOw were their temples built?

  • logs for support
  • dirt/mud
  • Rocks
  • some temples had under ground level, mid level and an upper level.
  • aztecks used these also

Keweenaw tribe

Up near lake superior.

About them

  • they have land near lake superior at the peak of michigan
  • some traveled to northern Wisconsin and settled there.
  • they have a burial sight in superior
  • built a mound the shape of a bear.
  • They have also built a couple temple mounds around lake superior.(only one remains)
