  • Born around the year 1485.
  • Born in Val Di Greve, Italy.
  • Died in 1528.
  • Died because of a Native attack.

Early Life

  • Was a pirate that stole things from people.
  • Learned about exploration at a young age.
  • Lived with his parents and brother, wanted to move  and explore.

  • Because he discovered New York they have a special day for him.
  • In New York there's a bridge called the Verrazano-Narrows-bridge.
  • Went on a physical exploration.

SPONSOR/MOTIVES

  • King Francis1, the king of France, sponsored him.
  • Wanted to find the Northwest passage to China - he failed.
  • There was a competition between countries to trade.
  • Was sent to get resources for trading.

ROUTE

  • Went from France to the Carolina coast near Cape Fear to the Eastern coast of North America and explored New York in 1524.
  • Went on three trips to the new world.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Discovered Block Island and Narragansett Bay wich is now Rhode Island.
  • Found 32 islands near Maine.

IMPACT

  • His brother made maps because of Giovanni's discoveries, but they were inaccurate.
  • Told about riches in the new world.
  • Like Columbus he was trying to go West to Asia but hit North America there was more land nobody explored.
