WHAT IS A GLACIER?

  • A glacier is a large mass of ice that moves slowly over land.
  • There are two types of glaciers *continental and valley glaciers.

FORMING

  • Glaciers form only where there is a lot of snow.
  • The snow melts.
  • When depth of snow reaches more than 30 to 40 meters gravity begins to pull glacier downhill

HOW VALLY GLACIERS MOVE

  • Valley glaciers flow at a rate of a few centimeters to meters per day
  • Sometimes slides down more quickly than a surge.
