What is GLBT? Military?
GLBT stands for gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people. GLBT is all of those people in the military

HISTORY

  • World War II changed lives of gays and lesbians...
  • The military was excluding homosexuals from service even in the 1930's
  • Policy-DADT(Don't Ask, Don't Tell)

DADT

HISTORY

  • Pearl Harbor
  • Excluding gays and lesbians wasn't as important
  • Needed people in service to fight

"Medical professionals were "trained" to spot homosexuals based on physical characteristics, behavior, and vocabulary. The interview screening process that each man and woman entering the military had to go through took all of three minutes, during which time homosexuality was supposed to be spotted by the interviewer. "

"Gay men had a slightly less easier time in the military. If a man was caught having sex with another man, it was treated as a very serious crime. The guilty could be sent to the brigs, where guards enjoyed beating gay prisoners."

CLOSING REMARKS

  • Personally, the results affect me a little because I think anyone should be able to join the military
  • Now I know how harsh people were towards homosexuals in the military.
  • The community can benefit by fighting for LGBT rights...
