CAUSES

MEDICAL FACILITIES

  • A significant cause of overpopulation is the advancement of medical treatment
  • Illnesses that used to claim thousands of lives annually can now be easily treated.
  • Infection and disease are much less common in hospitals.

LACK OF FAMILY PLANNING

  • Especially in poor countries, uneducated laborers have large families to help generate income.
  • Children in these countries are pushed into early marriages and immediately begin having children.

OVERCOMING POVERTY

  • In the past, a small percent of people were able to live comfortably.
  • Since the industrial revolution, most people now have comfortable lives without danger.
  • A higher number of people now have plentiful food, resources, and medical care, leading to a lower death rate.

OVER CROWDING

  • There's only so much space on earth, and with so many people now living in that space, resources are depleting faster than we can replenish them.
  • There are 1billion people living in china alone, and there is barely enough space to build places for people to live.

POLUTION

  • With so many people living on earth, a lot of waste is being produced.
  • Factories billow smoke into the air, leading to air pollution. Risks of asthma have gone up significantly in the last 20 years.
  • More and more landfills are being made to hold all the garbage we throw out.

FOOD AND WATER

  • In undeveloped countries, food and water are not abundant. With more and more people being born, supplies become even less abundant.
  • If the population was at a sustainable level, there would be enough resources for everyone.

AWARENESS

  • A lot of people don't realize how overpopulated the planet is.
  • If people knew how crowded the earth was getting, they might do their part to keep the population from rising

PLANNED PARENTHOOD

  • Planned parenthood is vital to keep the population from growing. Teen pregnancies in the United States have doubled in the last 50 years.
  • China has implemented a one-child law, where families can only have one child each to try and stunt their population.

EDUCATION

  • Many poor uneducated workers have large families to help generate income.
  • Educating these people would help reduce the need for them to have such large families
