PRESENTATION OUTLINE

What is causing global warming? Is it possible to reverse the process?

RORY WILLIS

WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING?

  • Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's atmosphere and its oceans

HOW IS IT CAUSED

  • It is caused when green house gasess are emitted into the atmosphere and collect as groups. An example of this is co2. Theses then absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced of the earths surface. This then causes a blanket to form holding in the heat warming up the planets surface.
  • Man made factors and geological factors

MAN MADE FACTORS

  • Animal agriculture (51%) -methane and co2 produced, deforestation to make room for cows so less co2 is absorbed
  • Waste from humans burned which releases co2 and carbon monoxide
  • Fossil fuels -15%

GEOLOGICAL FACTORS

  • Volcanoes release tonnes of co2 when erupted
  • Forest fires

WHAT EFFECTS DOES THIS HAVE?

  • Melting of polar ice caps
  • Raise in sea levels and increase in sea temperature-which destroys coral and marine habitat/wildlife

MORE EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING

  • Average sea temperature will increase.
  • This will lead to the melting of ice caps.
  • This will lead to the increase of water which could cause flooding to low lying countries.

HOW CAN YOU REVERSE THE PROCESS

  • You can stop using non renewable resources.
  • Have a limit of green house gases produced.
  • Limit the number of animals used in big meat industry companies.
  • Stop deforestation
  • Alternative fuel for transport (e.g electricity)

QUIZ

  • What percentage does agriculture have contributing to global warming.
  • Is the global temperature of the sea increasing: yes/no
  • What gas is produced which is having a big impact on global warming.
