GMO Quick Facts

  • In North America, over 70% of our packaged foods contain GMOs
  • Companies aren't required to say they have and or use gmo's
  • The first GMO patent was issued 1980
  • The FDA approved the first GMO in 1982

The good thing about GMO's

  • Reduced needs for herbicides
  • Reduced needs of pesticides
  • Reduced greenhouse emissions

How GMOs are made

  • Transferring DNA between two organisms

Are GMOs bad for me

  • There are no scientific studies showing they pose a risk to human health
  • They are still largely unknown

How common are they

  • The United States is the world leader for gmo's
  • We have about 165 million acres or about half the global production

How to avoid them

  • Until GMO labeling laws are passed the only way to avoid would be if you went to the organic section to get food or food labeled non-gmo

Most common store bought products with gmo's

  • Bread
  • Soda and Juice
  • Frozen Dinners
  • Cereal and Granola
  • Chips
