Goat Rocks Wilderness Area

Facts

  • Created in 1964, it was made a wilderness area because of its unique terrain and since it provides a habitat for endangered and threatened species.
  • Species like marmots and pikas
  • The terrain is remnants of a large volcano

Location: It is within Gifford Pinchot National Park and Okanogan-Wenatchee National Park

It is managed by the Forest Service.

What can you do there?

  • You can: do recreational activities like hiking, camp within certain areas, etc.
  • You can't: Be there without a permit, be in a group larger than 12, camp within 100 feet of a lake, enter the Yakima Indian Reservation, use motorized equipment, etc.
