God Bless America is a very patriotic song. Sometimes, people sing it before baseball games, and at schools, like ours. It became famous after World War Two.

God Bless America was written in 1918 by Irving Berlin, and was fixed up by him in 1938, and he chose Kate Smith to introduce it.
Irving Berlin lived to be 101 years old. He was born in Russia, and his real name is Israel Isidore Baline. When he was five, his family went to New York City, in 1893. His father died when he was thirteen, so he started working as a paper boy for The Evening Journal. He had seven brothers and sisters. His first pay was five pennies. His other songs are Blue Skies, Easter Parade, White Christmas, and Happy Holiday.
