God's Smuggler is a true story (biography) on the life of Andy van der Bijl or more commonly known as Brother Andrew. It is an incredible thriller, showing you the life of a poor, non believing dutch boy and how God radically changes his life. As a boy he dreams of adventure trying war, alcohol, and cigarettes to satisfy the craving. But Andrew finally finds the real adventure he has been searching for as a missionary behind the iron curtain. Every day is a step of faith, and as you read you will discover the wild and amazing things the Lord preformed before his eyes.

Time: the 60's
Place: The Netherlands
Setting: Sint Pancras

** these places are important but because Brother Andrew was a missionary to many countries there isn't technically one specific place or setting.

My Favorite Character:
Corrie is my favorite character because she supports Andrew in all he does and makes them a perfect team. Although she is only in a little part of the beginning, you can still tell even then that she loves the Lord. She starts working at a young age and follows the gifts the Lord has given her through college. She patiently waited to get married and when she did she persevered through the trials of a missionary's wife. Corrie sets a great example for me; she is someone I aspire to be like.

I don't usually fall in love with books, but this one caught my eye and my heart. I love to see how the Lord uses an ordinary Dutch boy to help so many around the world. Brother Andrew inspires me as a Christian to trust and obey the Lord with all my heart and then to sit back and watch God's unbelievable works! Every story told is different and exciting. I picture a tree when i think of Andrew, he had one strong root that held him on to Jesus Christ but he also had many more roots holding him tighter to other fellow Christians that are working under cover with him. I learned how important it is to have these roots in the faith, so that you can stand strong when you feel like a storm is coming.

Theme:
Obedience- Brother Andrew's continuous choice to obey the Lord impacts the story greatly.

Book Comparison:
God's Smuggler reminds me a lot of Acts in the Bible, which is a book sharing all apostle Paul's journeys. Both Brother Andrew and Paul were missionaries, risking their lives for Christ. They both traveled to many different places; Andrew going to Poland, Czechoslovakia, and China, while Paul went to Greece, Macedonia, and Rome. Both books are in a bibliography style and teach us many life lessons.
