Ancient Greece and Canada are two very different countries with very different governments. Canada and Ancient Greece do have some similarities. These are the similarities of Ancient Greece and Canada's laws.

The similarities

  • You can be fined in Ancient Greece and in Canada for certain crimes
  • There are multiple types of governments in Canada and Ancient Greece
  • There is a capital city in both countries
  • Athens and Canada are both democracies
  • Ancient Greece and Canada are both divided into many city states or provinces
  • Ancient Greece and Canada both have freedom of religion
  • We both have elections

Yes, there are similarities between Ancient Greece and Canada but there are also tons of differences between the two of them. Here are the differences of the laws in Ancient Greece and Canada.

The differences

  • In Ancient Greece when there were elections you could vote for someone to leave. In Canada you could only vote for someone to be elected
  • In Canada when you commit a serious crime you're put in prison while in Ancient Greece you can be exiled
  • If you're a woman, child, slave, or someone poor you're not counted as a citizen in Ancient Greece. In Canada we count everyone who was born in Canada a citizen or if you immigrate to Canada you can become a Canadian citizen

  • In Ancient Greece each city was treated as their own nation with their own laws but in Canada each city and province follows federal law and the country of Canada is one nation

Human rights are very important to everyone in the world because everyone deserves to be treated equally no matter were you live or who you are. I will now talk about the human rights for Canada and Ancient Greece

Human rights Greece:

  • Around 500 bc, Greek philosophers argued that all human beings are equal by nature
  • Laws and institutions that failed to respect this basic equality were branded as contrary to nature
  • The philosophers argued for a common nature of human being. This resulted in the foundations of living together with liberty, equality and justice. The civil society is a community of free human beings

Human rights: Canada

  • In 1948, Canada signed the Universal Declaration of Human rights
  • 1. Canadian charter of rights and Freedoms 2. Canadian Human Rights Act 3. Canadian Human Rights Commission 4. Provincial human rights laws and commissions
  • These mechanisms essentially provide modern day Canada with Liberty, equality and justice for all

I hope you liked my project on Ancient Greece and modern day Canada.

Thank you
