• And 18 miles wide (29km)
• 1.8 km deep
• This land form started to form at least 17 million years ago
• The canyon is in Arizona USA

WHAT TYPE OF LANDFORM

• The canyons walls are made up of nearly 40 layers of rock
• The climate is so dry it keeps the canyon from widening
• The soil is so dry the canyon can not assorb water

HOW IT WAS FORMED

• Is formed by erosion from the Colorado river
• Most of the canyon formed under sea level
• The water runs down the walls taking rocks with it.
• Flash floods are the main cause of the formation
