Hi, my name is Dylan Turner and I will be providing you with an in-depth look into Grant Thornton.

We will first start off with how the company began. After you have a better understanding of the history, I will introduce more interesting facts about the company. Next, I will inform you of how the office environment is at Grant Thornton and job opportunities since most of you will be job searching soon.

History

  • Founded in 1924 by Alexander Grant
  • Originally known as Alexander Grant & Co.
  • Joined Thornton Baker to form Grant Thornton International
  • Name changed to Grant Thornton in 1986
  • One of the world's top companies in audit, tax, and advisory
A man by the name of Alexander Richardson Grant started off as a senior accountant with Ernst & Young, but wanted to start his own career in public accounting. Ever since the company was founded in 1924 it has held the same commit of providing to mid-sized companies (History).

By 1980, the company joined 49 other accounting firms, including UK's Thornton Baker, to create a global organization (History).

Six years later, Alexander Grant & Co. changed it's name to Grant Thornton as we know it today. The change was named to reflect the inclusion of it's United Kingdom affiliate, Thornton Baker (History).

Grant Thornton is the United States member firm of Grant Thornton International that provides reliable advice to clients across the nation (About Us).

Who does not like fun facts? Well, to you these may or may not be fun but they are definitely insightful.

Grant Thornton has offices in about 120 countries, which will provide an employee with moving aboard if they choose to do so. Also, with 56 offices in the U.S. (Fact Sheet), there is a great chance Grant Thornton is in an area near where you wish to live.

Bringing in approximately 1.3 billion dollars of revenue in 2013 is a result of why Grant Thornton is the sixth-largest accounting firm in the U.S (Fact Sheet). Grant Thornton is defined as a National Firm which typically perform services for regional and mid-size organizations.

Over 38,000 employees work for Grant Thornton (Fact Sheet), so opportunities for employment are there.

A company's work environment plays an enormous role in how effective the organization can become. At Grant Thornton, this is no different.

They were awarded "Best Places to Work" in 2013 by Crain's Chicago Business. Plus, they received "Best Accounting Firms to Work For" by Vault.com from 2011 to 2013 (Awards and Accolades).

On Grant Thornton's website they state under their values that the company promotes a consistent culture of excellence (Mission, Vision and Values). Additionally, they cite "Our people have fun together, not because we have to, but because we want to!"(People and Culture). If I was searching for a job with Grant Thornton, that sentence alone would make me feel comfortable about starting a career with them.

In reference to glassdoor.com, Grant Thornton was given rave reviews from past employees which led to the rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

In today's world, it is almost necessary to obtain and internship before joining the real-world. Employers want the students with experience, so they already have an understanding of what is expected.

Grant Thornton provides an internship program, so students can get insight into the business, people and culture. The program will allow students to get a feel for the firm and gain valuable skills for building a successful career (Our Internship Program).

Even though Grant Thornton is an accounting firm, it provides a range of business jobs. Obviously there are the audit, tax, and advisory positions but it goes beyond those jobs. Data Analyst, Business Analyst, and Marketing Manager are just a few of the other opportunities at Grant Thornton (JOBS).

The hiring process at Grant Thornton is similar to most other organizations. First, finding a job opening at the company is required. After filling out the application, you will be contacted by a recruiter who will talk about the position you applied for. Then there is an interview process, and if you meet the company's requirements they will extend an offer to you. If accepted, you can start your new career at Grant Thornton (It's an Exciting Time).

Currently, there are several job openings in North Carolina including: Internal Audit Manger, Billing Coordinator, and Business Advisory Services (Jobs in NC).
