What do Graphics Engineers do?

  • A graphics engineer is someone who uses a digital platform to create 2D and 3D designs from sketches and models.
  • Graphics engineers work solo or with a team to develop, create and modify code for large-scale video game software applications.

Training and education required

  • Most jobs ask for a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science with 3-5 years background in Graphics engineering.
  • Without a degree, companies will usually accept you if you have 10+ years background in Graphics design.
  • This all depends on where you plan on working and what they want from you.

Types of skills that are required

  • Background in authoring HLSL shaders.
  • Able to learn and master complicated code systems.
  • Able to write clean, debug, well-documented and efficient code.
  • Experience working productively with artists to identify pipeline considerations and improve workflow.

Places where Graphics engineers can get hired

  • Large Businesses (Ex. Riot games, Nintendo, Ubisoft, etc.)
  • Small companies
  • Websites (Ex. Prezi)
  • Etc.

What is the salary scale?

  • Salary most of the time can range depending on your experience.
  • The salary in 2014 was $95,510-$102,880.
