Tourists can enjoy many things at the reef including snorkeling and scuba diving the coral reefs. And you can go on aircraft or helicopter tours, glass-bottomed boat viewing, semi-submarines, cruise ship tours, whale watching and swimming with dolphins.
More than 1,500 fish species live on the reef, including the Clownfish, Red bass, Red-throat emperor, and several species of snapper and coral trout. About 5,000 species of Mollusks live on the reef.
Nearly all species of sea turtle are Endangered. They are slaughtered for their eggs, meat, skin and shells. sea turtles suffer from poaching and over-exploiting. These turtles also face habitat destruction and accidental capture in fishing gear. Climate change has an impact on turtle nesting sites too.
The Great Barrier Reef is super ancient. Enormous hosts of living things, composed of living coral growing on dead coral dating back perhaps as much as twenty million years ago
If you ever wanted to visit the Great Barrier Reef you can either go all year round, or you can go during the sting ray season which is from November until May.
