GREAT DEPRESSION

EXPLAINED BY BRANDON

THE CAUSES

In 1929 the stock market crashed which resulted in people being from rich to poor in seconds. One of the reasons for the stock market crash was that investors lost confidence in the market and sold their stocks. No one wanted to invest in stocks so it lost all its money. People that had money in the bank lost it and became poor instantly. The great depression caused many suicides and many people became homeless.

THE EFFECTS

The great depression effected millions of people and left most of them homeless, jobless, and starving. People that were effected by the Great Depression lost all of there money in the bank. People lost there homes and there jobs. Nearly 25% of America's work force was unemployed. There were also a lot of suicides during the great depression because people did not want to put up with the poor way of living.

WHAT ELSE WAS HAPPENING IN THE 1930

A lot of things happened in the 1930s that were very bad, such as the Great Depression and the Holocaust. World war 2 also stared in 1939 which was a horrible period in history. The 1930s was not a good time because so many tragic things happened. Im pretty sure we have it sorted out now and hopefully nothing like that ever happens again

HISTORY

The Great Depression is defiantly something that people will never forget about in the future. It was one of the worst things that happened in the past because of all the pain and suffering it caused to people. It was the result of tones of lives being lost and people becoming homeless. I would not want to see something like the great depression happen again.

INTERESTING FACTS

After the stock market crash, there was a lot of suicides among New York’s financial district. It is said that the clerks of one of the hotels started asking new guests if they wanted a room for sleeping or jumping.

It was estimated that nearly 50% of kids growing up during the great depression didn't have enough proper food or good shelters to live in.

A bunch of big structures, including the Empire State Building and the Golden Gate Bridge, were completed during the Crash, which provided jobs to the unemployed.
