LOCATION
Greece is located in the southeast of Europe. It is bordered by Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Albania from the north, as well as Turkey from the east.
The capital of Greece is Athens.

GREEK FLAG

  • Greece's flag includes a white cross with a blue background, accompanied by five blue stripes and five white stripes.
  • The white cross symbolizes Greek Orthodoxy.
  • The blue and white colors used symbolize the blue seas that surround Greece with their white wave crests.

GOVERNMENT
Greece is a Parliamentary Republic, in which the people choose the legislature in an election.

POPULATION
Greece's population is around 10,992,589. The most common language spoken in Greece is Greek, but one may also hear languages such as Macedonian, Albanian and Turkish when in Greece. The most popular religion in Greece is Greek Orthodoxy, along with a small percentage of Muslim.

Greece's economy is ranked 45th in the world. Greece's form of currency is the euro.

FAMOUS SITES

  • Parthenon: The main attraction on the Athenian Acropolis. This temple was dedicated to the goddess Athena, Athen's ancient patron.
  • Santorini: This volcanic made, crescent shaped island is known for its beaches, breathtaking sunsets and its active volcano.
  • Meteora: A collection of six monasteries situated on top of several rock pillars. To get there, the monks have established a system of nets and pulleys to pull up visitors one by one.

FAMOUS FOODS

  • Dolmades: Rice stuffed grape leaves.
  • Moussaka: The Greek version of a lasagna, layered with eggplant, meat, tomato, onion, potato, garlic and other spices, topped off with bechamel sauce and cheese.
  • Baklava: A filo dough pastry layered with honey, filo, and ground nuts.

FAMOUS PEOPLE
Aristotle: Aristotle was a famous philosopher who had great influence on philosophy, humanities, and social sciences.
Pete Sumpras: Sumpras is one of the greatest tennis players of all time, he established records with his fourteen Grand Slam Championships and seven Wimbleton titles.
Arianna Huffington: Huffington was a prolific author and international media mogul who started the award winning newspaper, The Huffington Post.
