  • Music was viewed as a gift from the gods
  • Many different instruments were used.
  • The oldest surviving instrument is the bone alui.

IMPORTANCE OF ANCIENT GREEK MUSIC

  • Music was essential to the pattern and texture of Greek life.
  • Most Greek men trained to play an instrument competently.
  • The Greek People Considered music a way to honor the Gods.

Instruments Used

  • Double Pipes
  • Lyra
  • Pipe with seven reeds.
  • Syrinx
  • Water Organ

Music and Religion

  • Certain religious practices were usually performed with music
  • Greek music mainly consists of melodies and rhythms.
  • Unfortunately we do not have any records because they had no way to record it.

History

  • There are no records of their music
  • However many instruments have been found.
  • Their are songs that were made that are thought to sound like theirs.

  • SUCH AS WEDDINGS, CEREMONIES AND SPECIAL OCCASIONS.
