ENVIRONMENT

  • The Chromis Viridis is usually found in the Indo-Pacific region, also in Africa, Indonesia
  • They normally live in a large group or community
  • Usually around Acropora corals in sheltered areas (lagoons and reefs)

Water conditions:

- 72-78 Degrees Fahrenheit
- 8.1- 8.4 pH
- 1.020 - 1.025 SG

AQUARIUM

  • A school of the Chromis Viridis can usually be put in a 30 gallon tank
  • They're usually in small groups
  • They will get along with each other & develop pecking order in the group
  • They may become more aggressive with tank mates when they mature & start to breed
  • Since they're relatively small in size, they would not do much harm to other species

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

  • They are normally green or light blue in color
  • They grow up to 10 cm in size
  • Males will develop a yellowish hue when they're ready to breed

HOW IT SURVIVES

  • They are relatively peaceful, except maybe when spawning.
  • They are Omnivores, they feed on phytoplankton
  • They can't be put together with larger predatory fishes as they'll become prey
  • Predatory fishes - Groupers, Lionfishes, Eels

REPRODUCTION

  • They're oviparous, which means that they reproduce by laying eggs.
  • Male can turn more yellow in color & will build small nests in the sand & court various females
  • The males then guard the eggs until they hatch a few days later
  • Green Chromis breeding is usually done on sand and rubble
