GRIMM BROTHERS

• Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm
• Jacob Grimm (1785-1863)
• Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859)
• They also wrote articles, reviews forewords, translations and editions
• They succeeded in becoming folklorists, linguists and medievalists

WHAT ARE GRIMM'S FAIRY TALES?

• A book of German folk tales.
• Collected by brothers , Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm
• Two volumes published, seven editions
• There were only 83 fairytales In comparison to the 200 known today
• In their lifetime the fairy tale collection was translated in almost all European languages

• Etc.

PURPOSE OF GRIMM FAIRY TALES

• To teach children lessons on
• Cheating
• Lying
• Stealing
• Etc.

RAPUNZEL

• A pregnant woman eats lettuce from sorcerers garden and craves more
• Has husband get more lettuce, gets caught and is arrested
• Is released, but in return he gives his child to the sorcerer
• At the age of 12 she is locked away in a tower, and sorcerer enters and exits by climbing rapunzel's long hair
• King's son passes tower and hears rapunzel's singing, he sees the rapunzel's hair ascend for sorcerer

RAPUNZEL

• The man climbs the hair, but she is scared, because she has never seen a man
• Rapunzel's agrees a to elope with the prince and return with a ladder so they can escape
• Rapunzel's accidentally blurts something about the prince and the sorcerer is not happy
• The sorcerer shears rapunzel's hair and tells the prince they will no longer see each other
• The rapunzel's jumps out of the tower and is blinded by thorns

RAPUNZEL

• Rapunzel gives birth to twins
• The prince wanders blindly until he finds Rapuzel's
• Rapunzel heals his eyes with her tears
• They go back to his kingdom
• They live happily ever after

LITTLE RED CAP

• Also known as " Little Red Riding Hood"
• Assigned a little red cap by her grandmother as a child
• Loved it so much she never wore anything thing else
• That's how the name " little red cap " stuck

LITTLE RED CAP

• One day her grandmother grew ill
• Her mother told her to take her grandmother some cake and a bottle of wine
• With instructions to not run off the path in warning that she may fall
• Little red cap began her journey as her mother requested

LITTLE RED CAP

• Half a league from her grandmothers village she encountered a wolf
• She had no clue what it was so she wasn't frightened
• The wolfs approach was nice so she took it how she seen it
• Not realizing how wicked he was
• The wolf asked where she was headed and she told him to her grandmothers

LITTLE RED CAP

• He asked where her grandmother lived
• The naive child she was , she told him
• The wolf to the short cut and beat her to her grandmothers house
• He tricked grandmother and swallowed her whole
• Wolf got dressed in grandmothers clothes and their he waited for Red

LITTLE RED CAP

• Little Red disobeyed her mothers orders and got off the path to pick flowers
• Once she picked the flowers she returned to the path
• She finally reached her grandmothers door and noticed it was open
• Hesitantly , she walked in
• She called out " good morning " but received no reply

LITTLE RED CAP

• She approached her grandmothers bedside
• Little Red Cap instantly realized that " grandmother "looked strange
• She told her " grandmother" that her appearance was very large and animal-like
• "Grandmother" gave her relevant reason why so she moved on the the next
• The last comment was " oh , grandmother , what terrible big mouth you have "

THE RED CAP

• He replied " better to eat you with"
• She caught on to the fact that that wasn't her grandmother
• When the wolf went to sleep she put rocks in his stomach
• The huntsmen stopped by grandmothers house and say the wolf and little red
• He skinned the wolf , release the grandmother and Little red Soonly went home and no one ever bothered her again

INTERESTING FACTS

• More than fifty percent of these fairytales have been made in to characters , movies or shows
• Most of the fairytales have been lightened up to "g" rated for the enjoyment for children
• Disney's entire existence is " Grimm Fairytale" based
