BATHING YOUR DOG

THE BASICS

WASH YOUR DOGS FUR ONCE A WEEK AT MOST

  • If you wash your dog's fur too much, their skin will dry out.
  • Depending on the breed of dog, wash them once a month

Use special dog shampoo. DO NOT USE human shampoo, it is not good for the dog.

MAKE SURE TO SCRUB

  • Be rough but not to rough. Just enough to get rid of the dead skin and stinky smell.
  • Keep shampoo away from eyes and the insides of the ear. Shampoo in eyes and ears will cause an infection.
  • If you are having troubles with the dog standing still, ask your parents to hold the dog while you wash and rinse him.

WHEN DRYING YOUR DOG

  • Make sure to dry all parts of the dog
  • If any water is left of their body, they may get a skin infection
  • Ask your parents for help if you need it!

IF YOU WANT YOUR DOG TO LOVE A LONG LIFE

  • Brush their teeth everyday!
  • You can brush their teeth once a week, but that gives bacteria and germs more time to attack and kill the gums and teeth.
  • Their teeth should be white, shiny and smooth
  • Their gums should be smooth and pink

Take all the time you need! As long as you get rid of all the germs from the dog's mouth, you can take all the time you need.

Clean your dog'a ear once a month, more if they enjoy swimming.

Use a Q-tip to clean the parts of the ear you can SEE. Never dig into the ear canal, let your groomer or vet do that.

BRING YOUR DOG TO THE VET IF

  • The dog is in pain while you clean its ear
  • There is redness or swelling around the ear
  • If your dog has any of these problems, it may have an infection or mites.

Be careful while clipping your dog's nails; if you cut to much off the nail it will start bleeding because you cut the quick.
