HISTORY

  • Christopher Columbus first came to Guadeloupe in 1493
  • The Caribs repulsed Spanish troops and settlers in 1515, 1520, and 1523. In 1626 the Spanish, who had established themselves on the coast, were driven away by Pierre Bélain, sieur d’Esnambu.
