Location
Guatemala is located in North America. The Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean border it. El Salvador, Mexico, Honduras, and Belize border it too. 15,189,958 million people live there, and 5.45 million people live in Minnesota. The area is 42,042 square miles big, and Minnesota is 86,943 square miles big.

History
2000 BC- The Maya lived and farmed and fished to the area by the Pacific Coast.
1523/1524- Spanish explorer Pedro de Alvarado turns Guatemala into a Spanish Colony.
1839- Guatemala becomes independent.

People/Lifestyle
The people of Guatemala love to play soccer. But they also like to play basketball, volleyball, and tag. Some kids go to school but many don't because it is a very poor country. They celebrate Christmas, Easter, and Lent (the days leading up to Easter.) All Saints Day is a very important day as well.

Society
The head of the government in Guatemala is President Jimmy Morals. They are a democracy. The currency is Quetzal.

Culture
Most people in Guatemala are Catholic, but some have converted to Protestant and others Christian Churches. Spanish the official language. They eat a lot of beans and rice and tortillas. They like to listen to pop, mariachi, and salsa music. There has been a lot of murals painted in the past.
